Patterdale

We have converted the T'Auld Cruck Barn, which is connected to the house, for the use of family and friends but it can be entirely self-contained with its own independent front door.

There are windows on three sides with superb views towards Kirkstone Pass, Deepdale, Grizedale and Helvellyn.

Patterdale is a splendid base for walking, climbing and boating in the N.E. Lakes. It lies at the foot of Place Fell (2154ft) and below Boredale Hause, on the Coast-to-Coast path. Helvellyn (3118ft) is nearby.

Three steamers operate on Ullswater. Glenridding to Pooley Bridge via Howtown. Sailing dinghys, canoes, rowing boats and small motor boats can be hired. Aira Force waterfalls are nearby and well worth a visit.

Our reconstructed half-cruck barn offers a self-contained, self-catering, open-plan unit, with two single beds and a sofa bed. (A cot can be supplied, if needed).

Linen (duvet covers, bottom sheets, pillow cases) and towels are not provided.

The room is 22ft x 17ft with en-suite shower, wash-basin and w.c. There is a fully equipped galley-kitchen with electric cooker, micro-wave and refrigerator.

There is TV and a radio/cassette player. Heating is by two Economy 7 storage heaters, supplemented, when necessary, by a convector heater. Electricity is charged at the current rate.

Outside is a small patio area, with garden table, leading to an orchard with play-area and swing. A small parking area for one vehicle is available.

Weekly bookings are preferred - from approximately 4 pm on a Saturday until 10 am the following Saturday - but we can accept weekend bookings and are willing to make special arrangements about length of stay and arrival times.

How to Find Us: Get to Patterdale at the south end of Ullswater. Fifty yards south of the Post Office and White Lion pub, turn East at a sharp bend. Go across a narrow bridge and follow the lane for 200 yards and then turn right. This track is mainly unsurfaced and passes four bungalows and a large oak tree. Rookings is the next house on the left, a typical Lakeland stone house with the name on the front porch. There is no parking here so continue for 30 yards and do a "U-turn" through the gate marked Rookings. This gate should be kept shut; wandering sheep are not welcome.
