The Eggbeer Trust

how it all started
Colonel R. A. G. (Bertie) Bingley C.V.O.,
D.S.O., O.B.E., set up the Eggbeer Trust
in 1964. Mindful of his own full, active
and happy life - and very much in tune
with his personal belief - he was resolved
to ‘give something back’. This he felt
could best be accomplished by sharing his
own home and his farm with those less
fortunate.
To begin with, he welcomed clergy,
particularly those from the mission field
and in need of a holiday, into his home. As
he became older and less able to look after
others, he established The Caravan in the
secluded old orchard at Middle Eggbeer,
as a holiday retreat.
The Trustees share his vision and maintain
The Caravan to provide free holidays for
those who qualify under the terms of the
Trust.
accommodation
The caravan enjoys views over Dartmoor
and comprises six berths: one bedroom
with a double bed, one with two single
beds and then two berths in the living
room. There is mains water on tap for
cooking, the shower and the lavatory and
all heat, light and power are supplied by
electricity. A ‘games room’ is close by for
youngsters on wet days!
